The number of women travelling from Ireland to England and Wales for an abortion has decreased over the last year.

But figures released by the UK Department of Health show that 12 women a day are still travelling to Britain for terminations.

In 2009, a total of 4,422 women with addresses here had an abortion in England or Wales – 178 less than the previous year.
