It’s reported US border officials knew an alleged extremist was on a plane heading for Detroit on Christmas Day.

The LA Times claims security staff spotted Umar Farouk Abdullmutallab’s name on a database after he’d boarded the flight.

They wanted to question him when he landed.

The 23-year old Nigerian has been formally charged with trying to blow up the aircraft.
