A PSNI officer is fighting for life after a major customs operation on the border which ended with the seizure of almost 7.5 million smuggled cigarettes.
The officer was knocked down at a police checkpoint in South Armagh.
A second officer is being treated for less serious leg injuries.
The critically-injured policeman was airlifted from the scene by helicopter.
The pair are understood to have been manning the checkpoint as part of a joint operation involving customs officials targeting cigarette smuggling.
They were struck by a van which failed to stop on the Low Road near Meigh around 1pm this afternoon.
