Steven Reid has been given another chance to try and break back into Giovanni Trapattoni’s Ireland set-up ahead of our upcoming friendlies against Algeria and Paraguay. Blackburn have allowed the injury-hit midfielder to join West Brom on a month-long loan deal after being given limited chances to impress for Rovers since his return from a lengthy injury lay-off. It’s the second loan move for Reid this season after a previous stint away from Ewood Park with QPR. Reid, who turns 29 on Wednesday, has spent much of the season on the fringes at Ewood Park but he goes straight into the Baggies squad which travels to QPR on Saturday. Injuries have limited Reid to only 44 appearances over the past four seasons at Blackburn, and he is looking to kick-start his career with high-flying Albion. Baggies manager, Roberto Di Matteo believes Reid is the player he has been looking for: “Steven is an exciting player and I’m delighted to welcome him to the club. We’ve been looking to strengthen our squad for the final push and Steven certainly fits the bill. He’s a versatile player with loads of experience.”
