A Limerick rugby player who was shot dead 2 years ago in a case of mistaken identity will be remembered tonight with a range of sporting events in his native city.
28 year old Shane Geoghegan who was killed on the 9th November in 2008 was an innocent victim of gangland crime.
The Shane Geoghegan Trust is hosting “A Day for Shane” to raise money for a charity set up to divert children away from a life of crime.
Shane’s uncle Tony Geoghegan says the highlight of the day is a match in Thomond Park between premiership side Sunderland and players from the Airtricity League.
“The centrepiece is a visit of Sunderland, a premiership team, to play amongst our selection” he said.
“Around that we have various other sports – GAA, hurling, rugby, sumo wrestling – you name it” he added.
