Woman convicted of indecent material, criminal defamation on website

Jul 8th, 2010, 4:51 pm

A Dublin woman has been convicted of posting fake sex ads on classifieds website Gumtree.

Aishling Madden of Monastery Drive in Clondalkin was found guilty on 2 counts of publishing indecent material and on 4 counts of criminal defamation against David Henry and Louise Vivash in June 2006.

The defence compared the Gumtree posts with titles such as ‘horny Irish male takes all’  and ‘Diva with a heart of gold’  to toilet graffiti.

But after just under 2 hours of deliberations the jury found Aishling Madden guilty of defamation and publishing obscene material.

The 34 year old said the messages which gave contact details for David Henry and Louise Vivash were a practical joke done with a few friends around in her house.

She gave no reaction to the verdict.

Her lawyers have told the court there was much beneath the surface to her background including a regime of particular treatment that was not an easy matter.

She is on bail until sentencing on July 28th.
