A Red C poll in this week’s Sunday Business Post shows Labour would have more support than Fianna Fail while Fine Gael would become the party with the most support in the country if an election was held now.
The Green Party and Sinn Fein are both on 6% while independents and others are on 8%
The massive surge in support for the Labour Party is at the expense of all others bar the Green Party.
At 24% – Labour is up a whopping 7 points – and takes second place for the first time in Red C tracking polls.
The only other winner in this poll is the Green Party with a 1 point increase in support.
Sinn Fein suffers the buggest drop – down 4 points to 6, Fine Gael loses 2 to 33 and Fianna Fáil drops 1 to 23 – leaving it third for the first time ever in this tracking poll.
If these numbers were to be replicated in a General Election – Fianna Fail would lose more than 30 seats, while Labour would double its current Dáil standing.
Just half of those who voted Fianna Fail in 2007 say they now support the party.
