Here are the newspaper headlines on Monday 22nd March…

The Irish Times leads a large picture of Pope Benedict with the headline “Full accountability is only way forward – archbishop”

The paper says there was mixed reaction to the Pope’s letter on clerical sex abuse and reports that Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has given his clearest indication yet that the state investigation into clerical abuse should be widened.

The Irish Independent’s front page says “Greens on course to get fourth minister”

The newspaper’s lead story says The Taoiseach is expected to be cautious in the expected re-shuffle tomorrow on any major Cabinet changes. However the paper reports the Greens are likely to get a fourth ministry to seal coalition unity.

The Irish Examiner has the headline “I Am Truly Sorry”

The paper has a front page picture of around 20 people walking out of mass at the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin yesterday as the papal letter was read out. The Examiner says the Pope targeted Irish bishops.

The Mirror has the headline “Anglo Drumm’s Secret Millions” on its front page

The paper says former Anglo chief executive, David Drumm, has pumped millions into the US property market.

The Sun leads with “Huntley Throat Slashed”

The papers says Soham murderer Ian Huntley underwent emergency surgery yesterday after having his throat slit by another inmate in prison in the UK yesterday .

The Star has the headline “Stabbed 5 Times Over Light For Cigarette”

The newspaper says 60-year-old Therese Moore was attacked in Drogheda and stabbed in an unprovoked attack on Saturday because she told a woman she didn’t have a cigarette lighter.

The Irish Daily Mail leads with “Knifed By A Total Stranger”

The paper also leads on the stabbing of Therese Moore in Drogheda
