Here are the Irish newspaper headlines on Tuesday June 1st…

The Irish Times leads with “Seven Irish citizens detained in Israel after raid on aid flotilla.”

The paper says 7 Irish citizens were last night being detained in Israel after the Gaza-bound flotilla they were sailing in was raided by armed and masked Israeli commandos in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The Irish Independent tells us “Wave of fury erupts over Israeli killings.”

The newspaper reports that Israel was last night accused of kidnapping Irish citizens after its marines shot dead at least 10 pro-Palestinian activists during a raid on a flotilla trying to deliver aid to the Gaza strip.

It also tells us two cardinals will head up probe into church sex abuse.

The Examiner leads with “Kidnapped”.

Its focus is Micheal Martin calling for Israel to release the 7 Irish citizens it detained in international waters.

The ex-lover of shamed Archbishop, Richard Burke, last night told the paper she was just 14 when he first had sex with her. Tipperary born Burke resigned yesterday insisting Dolores Atwood was 21 when they first had sex.

The Daily Mail writes of ‘Bloodbath on the High Seas’

The paper’s focus is the raid on the aid flotilla.

The Mirror leads with “Melanie’s Love For Gerry”.

The paper focuses on items belonging to the late Gerry Ryan found in a skip including a birthday card from his girlfriend and drawings from his children.
