Here are the Irish newspaper headlines on tuesday May 25th…

The Irish Times leads with “EU scheme for levy on banks to deal with future crisis”

The paper reports that Brussels has put forward proposals that banks like AIB and Bank of Ireland should pay into an insurance trust to allow the financial system to cope should there be any future collapse.

The Irish Independent’s front page says “Gormley faces chaos over water tax plans”

The newspaper’s lead story says plans to introduce a water tax to every home will descend into chaos as a major report has shown that businesses, already subject to charges, are not being pursued by local authorities.

The Irish Examiner has the headline “Aquatic Centre row costs taxpayers millions”

The paper says the government agency that controls the National Aquatic Centre ignored the advice of the Attorney General in taking a case against former managers which has cost the taxpayer millions.

The Mirror has the headline “Get Out” on its front page

The paper says Ronan Keating was given his marching orders by wife Yvonne who smashed his hopes of patching up their marriage following an affair.

The Sun leads with “Love Rat Ro holed up in K Club”

The paper says Ronan Keating retreated to the K Club in Kildare yesterday with his children following a 45 minute visit with his wife. In their version of the saga Yvonne has apparently agreed to take Ronan back, but only on her terms.

The Star has the headline “The Key To Her Heart”

The newspaper also leads on Ronan Keating but it says he returned home wearing an identical love pendant to one his wife wore a few days ago.

The Irish Daily Mail leads with “Shambles Over Deaths In Care”

The paper reports that Children’s Minister, Barry Andrews, has been called out of his depth while the HSE has been heavily criticised over its refusal to hand over files relating to children who died in care.
