A US school bus company is being sued after a driver allegedly fell out of a moving bus when he leant out to vomit.

The driver-less bus full of schoolchildren ended up crashing into a nearby ditch, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

A mother, who claims her child was hurt in the incident in Kankakee County, Illinois, is suing the bus company for £30,000.

Akilah Giddings, mother of Jacqual Calbert, claims the driver opened the door of the bus “in an attempt to lean over so he could barf”.

The driver fell out onto the road while the bus full of schoolchildren continued moving and crashed into a ditch, her lawsuit claims.

Court papers do not specify the nature of the child’s injury or say if anyone else was injured in the crash.

The lawsuit against Illinois Central School Bus, one of the biggest school bus companies in the US, was filed in Cook County Circuit Court.

Company spokeswoman Diana Hallam declined to comment on the lawsuit but said safety was “a top priority”.
