This Week on the Wide Angle… 04/07/10

Jul 2nd, 2010, 12:01 pm

The arrest of Russian spies (including Anna Chapman pictured above) this week in the quiet American suburbs harks back to the days of “reds in the beds” and the Cold War. We ask what they were doing in the United States and why has the American government decided to announce it now?  Security Analyst Declan Power, former inspector general of the CIA Frederick Hitz and Moscow-based journalist Carl Schreck give their thoughts and opinions on this bizarre espionage story.

The Civil Partnership Partnership Bill has been passed unanimously in the Dáil but not everyone is pleased. Gay rights activists believe that Ireland is far behind other countries particulary regarding the right to have children.   We talk to family solicitor Marion Campbell, Max Krzyzanowski from NOISE and Henk Krol, editor of Gay Krant newspaper in the Netherlands.

For all this and more tune in to the Wide Angle this Sunday 9am-11am for the best in national and international news and opinion hosted by award-winning journalist Karen Coleman.
