Cork will take common sense to speed limits

Feb 10th, 2010, 9:24 am

Cork City Council says it will be taking a ‘common sense’ approach to the management of its city centre speed limits.

The council is considering bringing in a 30 kilometre an hour speed limit, despite the public backlash to the introduction of the limit in Dublin city centre.

Dublin City Council has said however that it’s considering a review of where the limit is enforced.

Cork City Council’s Ian Winning says they’ll be taking a balanced approach.

“It is a very good measure in terms of a concept – but I think possibly the area covered was too extensive” he said.

“It’s a matter of balance really; drivers are being inconvenienced for the greater good”.

“Both Cork and especially Dublin have tremendous potential to develop cycling further” he added.
