The leader of the CPSU says widespread industrial action in the Public Service will get worse before it gets better.
Blair Horan’s predicting the effects of the work to rule will actually increase in sectors like health and local authorities in the coming weeks.
Members of the Civil and Public Services Union are currently being balloted on their feelings about the action, and if they think it should escalate.
Blair Horan says it may take a while before their point hits home.
“The government really needs to think again, and it takes a government – in my experience when there’s a dispute like this – it does take a government quite a bit of time to respond” he said.
“Unlike a private sector employer where a strike may mean they’re loosing money, that’s not the case in the public sector”.
“It takes a number of weeks before a government actually begins to think about sitting down and solving this” he added.
