Funeral of murdered schoolgirl takes place

Sep 2nd, 2010, 1:43 pm

The funeral mass of Michaela Davis has taken place at Porterstown Church in Dublin 15.

The body of the 12-year-old was found in undergrowth along the Royal Canal last Saturday afternoon.

School children from across Dublin 15 lined out in their uniforms to form a guard of honour for Michaela ahead of her funeral mass.

Distraught friends embraced as her coffin was taken into St. Mochtas Church where she made her confirmation earlier this year.

Fr. John Daly reminded the congregation that they needed to support the Davis family.

“Her mom and dad and her brother and her grandparents who, as you know, have been broken by the events of last weekend” he said.

“We really need in our liturgy today to be able to carry Brendan and Deirdre and Michaela’s brother Brendan through this day” he added.

Last Monday gardai brought an 18-year-old before Dublin District Court and charged him with her murder.

Jonathan Byrne of nearby Lohunda Downs in Clonsilla is due back in court again tomorrow.
