A court has heard how a Galway man, who’s already been charged with cruelty, rape and neglect of his children, now faces an additional 185 charges.

The man who can’t be named for legal reasons appeared before Athenry District Court today.

His wife also faces charges of cruelty and neglect – they’ve both been remanded in custody.

In December, the 48 year old man was charged with raping four of this daughters and neglecting cruelty towards his son between 1997 and April of last year.

Today Garda Maura Hession told the court that the man now faces an additional 185 new charges.

The court heard how the accused made no reply – except to the final charge when he said “I didn’t do any of it”.

A second application for bail was made today and after an objection by the state, Judge Joseph Mangan refused the application.

He remanded the man in custody to appear before Harristown District Court on Friday.

An application for bail is also due before the High Court on Friday.

His wife faces a total of 18 charges of cruelty and neglect of her children between May of 2002 and June of last year.

She was remanded in custody today to appear before Ennis District Court on the 22nd of January.
