Gilmore says government is falling apart

Feb 26th, 2010, 1:29 pm

Eamon Gilmore says the latest row within Fianna Fáil shows the Government is “clapped out”.

A member of the party’s national executive is threatening to publish damaging information about the Transport Minister after a row at a meeting last night.

Jerry Beades says the Minister made remarks to him after he’d suggested last week the Taoiseach should replace him and five others in Cabinet.

The Labour leader says this row shows the Government really should be replaced

“We are seeing a government that is now clapped out” he said.

“Like any old engine that’s clapped out, bits of it are going to stop working  – and we’re going to hear a lot of clanking and clunking”.

“The problem that that faces us all with, is that it means that they’re now going to be devoting more of their energy to keeping themselves together, to keeping the show on the road, to keeping Fianna Fáil in government – than they are devoting to the problems of the people” he added.
