Green Party TD Paul Gogarty has admitted that the Green Parliamentary Party is divided on whether Minister Willie O’Dea should resign.
Although the Party’s Dáil members all voted with the Government in a motion of confidence in the Minister yesterday, Deputy Gogarty says behind the scenes some felt he should go, some felt he should stay and some were in the middle.
With the controversy over Minister O’Dea giving false evidence in an affidavit continuing, Paul Gogerty has revealed that he Minister met with Green leader John Gormley and if Minister Gormley wanted him gone “he’d be gone”
Speaking to Breakfast here on Newstalk, Green Party TD Paul Gogarty highlighted the division in the party.
“It’s clear that if it was a resigning issue, we would have already been calling for his resignation” he said.
“As a collective parliamentary party we’ve discussed the issue, we’re not necessarily happy with his behaviour – but we don’t believe it’s a resigning issue”.
“Some people do – like Dan (Boyle) and there’s a couple of others, but I’m not going to name names – and other people think it isn’t” he added.
