Group starts campaign to stop smoking in cars

Feb 16th, 2010, 12:20 pm

Ash Ireland is kick-starting its campaign to stop people smoking in cars while they have children in the back.

It wants the Government to introduce a similar ban in cars as there is in the workplace.

According to international evidence, passive smoking is far more harmful to children as they have higher respiratory rates.

ASH Ireland Chairperson Dr Angie Brown says children deserve clean air.

“If you’re under 16 you’re not going to ask your parents or carers ‘please can I can get out of the car’ or ‘please can you stop smoking as we don’t like it” she said.

“So we’re rally standing up for children…for their rights to have clean air” she added.
