The laws which the Government hope will shut down headshops begin passing through the Dáil later.
TDs are also set to begin debating the controversial Dog Breeding Bill which the Greens say is to prevent animal cruelty on puppy farms.
The Government has promised to put headshops out of business and today they will begin the process they hope will deliver the result.
Legislation will be debated in the Dáil that aims to ban all psychoactive substances.
The Government hopes this will prevent headshops restocking with new products as soon as other ones are put on a banned list.
Meanwhile the controversial Dog Breeding Bill – or as referred to by some as the Puppy Farm Bill – begins going through the Dáil as well.
The Government is set to publish a number of amendments to water it down as Independents and backbenchers threaten to follow Mattie McGrath and vote against it next week.
