Hundreds of people are attending the funeral of acting legend Mick Lally in Dublin.

The 64-year-old was best known for his role as Miley Byrney in ‘Glenroe’.

He died on Tuesday after a short stay in hospital.

His funeral service is taking place at the Newlands Cross Crematorium where many famous faces from the worlds of screen and stage have joined the chief mourners his wife Peggy and 3 children.

In an emotional tribute to his father Darach Lally told the congregation that the reality of what has happened has yet to set in.

“He left behind his poor parents; May’s here and his Dad (of) 97, probably couldn’t really make the long trip up to Dublin” he said.

“He left his beautiful wife – my Mom – Peggy, who loved him so much and he loved her”.

“Me and my brother, my sister – and I think a nation missing your favourite uncle”.

“We loved him so much” he added.
