Industrial action tops CPSU conference agenda

Mar 26th, 2010, 9:53 am

Public sector pay cuts and industrial action will top the agenda at the Civil Public and Services Union (CPSU) annual conference in Galway today.

The campaign of action at the Passport Office in Dublin – which has created a backlog of over 50,000 passports – is also expected to be discussed today.

The CPSU – which represents 13,000 lower paid civil and public servants – opened its three day conference yesterday.

Day two of the CPSU’s annual delegate conference in Galway will be dominated today by debates on motions tabled by delegates.

They include calls for public sector pay cuts to be reversed, the unions leadership to take pay cuts, withdrawal from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and ceasing participation in social partnership talks.

There is also a motion asking the CPSU to hire journalists to counter what is described as misleading propaganda.

The ongoing dispute at the Passport office in Dublin – which has led to chaotic scenes in recent days – is also expected to be discussed today.

The CPSU General Secretary Blair Horan and the President of the union Denis Walshe will make their addresses to the conference later today.
