Jury in double murder trial discharged

Apr 13th, 2010, 1:39 pm

The jury has been discharged in the trial of two Dublin men accused of fatally stabbing two Polish men in 2008.

19-year-old David Curran of Lissadel Green, Drimnagh and 21 year old Sean Keogh from Vincent Street West, Inchicore are both charged with the double murder of Pawel Kalite and Marius Szwajkos on February 23rd that year at Benbulben Road in Drimnagh.

The State had just finished its opening statement when the decision to discharge the jury was made.

After consulting with counsel on both sides, Mr. Justice Liam McKechnie informed the seven male and five female jurors that in their absence certain information had come to light that could have an impact from a legal point of view on the running of the case.

The trial – which is expected to last 3 weeks – will restart tomorrow after a fresh jury is sworn in.
