The judge in the Eamonn Lillis murder trial has told the jury they must leave all human emotion at the door when considering a verdict.
The 52 year old TV ad producer is accused of killing his wife Celine Cawley at their Dublin home on Windgate Road, Howth on December 15th 2008.
Mr. Justice Barry White will complete his charge to the jury tomorrow morning, before sending them out to begin deliberating.
So far in his recap of the evidence, he’s drawn attention to the fact Eamonn Lillis not only lied to gardai about an intruder attacking his wife, he nominated a suspect – and so pointed the finger at an innocent man.
The judge has told the jury that the accused was given several opportunities in garda interviews to come clean about the burglary but did not.
In his final address, Mr Justice White also said it was up to them to decide whether Mr Lillis’s affair with masseuse Jean Treacy was a fling or something deeper.
He has told the jury they have several options to consider in reaching a verdict – was it murder, a pure accident or manslaughter.
