The Mayor of Limerick is calling for internment of known gang criminals.
His comments come following the shooting dead of a delivery man at a petrol station on the Ennis Road in Limerick early this morning.
The victim was approached by a lone gunman at around 6.30am this morning and shot dead.
A 29 year old has been arrested.
Mayor of Limerick Kevin Kiely says measures introduced by the government to deal with gang crime don’t go far enough – and he’s told Lunchtime with Eamon Keane selective internment should now be considered.
“If we have to solve this problem in Limerick and all over the country, we have to have a situation where we have selective internment of known criminal gang members” he said.
“It’s the only way out of it”.
“It was done during the time of the Troubles with the Republican parties; I think it should be reintroduced” he added.
