A priest has told men of violence in Limerick city that prayer is more powerful than guns and bombs.
Fr. Paddy Costelloe was speaking at the funeral mass of Daniel Treacy who was gunned down as he delivered bread to a petrol station last Monday morning.
Gardai described Mr Treacy as a law-abiding man who did not deserve to die in the way he did.
In his homily this afternoon, Father Costello told those gathered that the violence in Limerick can’t go on.
“We cannot live in this city with helicopters hovering above to keep piece” he said.
“We cannot live in this city if people going about their daily business have to have Garda protection”.
“We cannot continue to live in this city if you cannot go into a petrol station to buy petrol, a newspaper, milk – or the ubiquitous breakfast roll – maybe made with bread delivered by Daniel Tracey”.
