Gardai are questioning a man after a car turned away from a routine Garda Traffic Corps checkpoint in Limerick overnight and a quantity of cannabis was seized.

Gardai chased the car from the Richmond Park area of Corbally at around 10pm before finding the drugs.

One man was arrested and is being held at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

In a separate incident, a quantity of drugs was recovered from a house on the Old Cork Road in Limerick at around 7pm last night.

The drugs, seized in a planned raid by local drugs squad Gardai, are to be taken to Dublin for a forensics examination.
