A man has been killed in a road crash in Co. Roscommon.

The 34-year-old died when the car he was driving crashed at Tarmonbarry, on the N5 Longford to Strokestown Road, in the early hours of this morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Roscommon General Hospital.

The road was closed for a time but it has since re-opened.

Gardai in Boyle are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
