Mother of girl at centre of care report criticises HSE

Mar 5th, 2010, 12:51 pm

The mother of Tracey Fay has criticised the lack of contact made with her by the HSE since the death of her daughter.

The teenager died in 2002, after years in state care.

A report into her death was published by Fine Gael earlier this week.

Tracey’s mother Doreen has denied a claim in the report that she knocked out her daughter’s teeth and that Tracey suffered domestic abuse at the hands of her stepfather.

And she says she wishes she had never put her daughter in care and could turn the clock back.

“She didn’t get the care I thought she was going to get” she said.

“I wish I could turn back the clock, because I’ve raised my other three kids and they’ve turned out wonderful kids”.

“I’ve one daughter now in college, she’s 17 years of age – she’s doing very well – she’s doing nursing”.

“My other son is doing the building, and then I’ve a little boy”.

“I wish I’d never put my Tracey into care, cause I’d have done a better job myself if they’d have let me have my way and bring her back here” she added.
