The Tánaiste’s being told its still not too late to save 300 jobs at Dublin airport.
Ryanair Chief Michael O’Leary says his company is still interested in taking over certain parts of the former SR Technics & he’ll meet her tomorrow if she picks up the phone to him.
He accused Mary Coughlan of ignoring Ryanair’s offer to create 500 jobs at the SRT hangar at Dublin – 200 of those positions have already been lost to Glasgow.
Mr. O’Leary told Lunchtime with Eamon Keane 300 people could be off the dole by tomorrow if the Tánaiste acts.
“We’ve written this morning now to the Tánaiste, I’ve offered to go in and meet her personally in town tomorrow” he said.
“I’ll be in town tomorrow anyway; I’m happy to go in and explain to her how she can still save 300 of these jobs for Dublin airport and for Ireland”.
“This government could fix this thing by teatime today, if there was any willingness or any balls” he added.
Eamon Gilmore says the Tánaiste should have taken Michael O’Leary’s arm off to get jobs to Dublin Airport.
The Labour leader says he’ll demand she come into the Dáil tomorrow and explain her lack of action.
“When Michael O’Leary approached the Tanaiste and explained to her that he had certain difficulties in advancing his proposal, she should have taken his arm off to get the jobs” he said.
“I think that the approach that was taken where, you know, dancing on the head of a pin, and worried about one agency’s sensibilities and another agency – when jobs are at issue, whatever has to be done should be done and it wasn’t done” he added.
