The trial of a 19-year-old woman charged with murdering her brother at a house party in Kilkenny in 2008 has opened at the Central Criminal Court in Waterford.

Caroline Brennan has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Michael Brennan at her uncle’s house in Castlecomer, in the early hours of December 30th 2008.

The 22-year-old was discovered with a knife wound to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

A jury of nine women and three men were sworn in to hear the case before Justice Paul Carney.
