The United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Ireland will meet with officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs today, to discuss the use of fake Irish passports by the alleged killer of a Hamas commander in Dubai.
It comes as Israel’s Ambassador to the UK is being summoned to a meeting in London to answer questions about the alleged fake British passports used.
Police there claim 11 “agents with European passports” killed Mahmoud al-Madboo, six of the gang carried British passports, three had Irish and the others used passports from France and Germany.
It’s now been confirmed that while the Irish passports used by three members of the gang were fraudulent, genuine passports numbers had been used.
Two of the passport holders have been notified by the Department of Foreign Affairs while the the third person has yet to be traced.
The Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin says the use of false Irish passports by alleged killers of a Hamas official is an extremely serious incident.
Isreali man Paul Keely is one of those who’s passport details were used by the gang – speaking through an interpreter, he expressed his shock.
“It’s sad; at first I was laughing with my wife, but later you realise what’s going on here” he said.
“I was walking around yesterday really numb”.
“It’s weird, totally weird” he added.
