A woman is fighting for life after a freak road accident in Limerick.

The woman, aged in her 40′s, was walking on O’Connell Avenue close to Limerick city centre at around 11am this morning when a truck mounted the kerb and hit a tree.

A ten foot branch was snapped off the tree and hit the woman on the head knocking her unconscious.

She’s in a critical condition at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.
