Whats all the noise?

Apr 6th, 2011, 2:37 pm

Is rap music the key to fighting discontent in Tanzania?

Producer Orla Barry travels to Dar es Salaam, the home of Bongo Flava (Tanzania’s own form of rap music) to investigate how this little known musical form has taken the country by storm. The Documentary follows performers as they take to stages in remote Tanzania to rap about corruption, police brutality and prostitution. Politicians get in on the act, hiring rappers to join them on their election buses for this year’s Presidential election. While an Irish charity hires Bongo Flava musicians to warn citizens in remote villages of the dangers of malaria. In Dar es Salaam an African-style Simon Cowell vets young wannabe rappers and street children aspiring to be the next Jay-Z.

What’s all the Noise?  is sponsored by the Simon Cumbers Media Fund
