HEADPHONES review
For the next few weeks we’ll be looking at various headphones that might make a great Christmas present for the person who loves their music or movies, whether that is on a PC, iPad, TV or Ipod
Sennheiser are a German company that have a large factory in Tullamore where they manufacture parts and whole headsets for their global market. They are perhaps best known audiophiles and industry professionals, but they have an enormous consumer range too. They have a fault rate of just 1% compared to some recently hyped brands that have a fault rate of around 50% We looked at an affordable 218i for smartphones and the more expensive bluetooth MM400.
Retailing at around €69, the 218i headphones give incredible clarity of sound for the price. Iphone controls include a microphone that works for iPhone and many Android models.
Pros: The Sound is superb! Compared to most headphones that are costed at this level, the bass is powerful and the treble crisp – cracking sound for the price. While not an Irish company per se, buying Sennheiser is definitely supporting Irish jobs.
Cons: The design isn’t flashy but it is quite masculine, so not sure if I would recommend this for a style-conscious woman.

The MM400 are powerful, stylish, well-designed and at the cutting edge of technology. Using the A2DP profile, it delivers seamless high-quality audio
Pros: Slick design, powerful audio. Wireless and wired option. Bluetooth audio with A2DP profile, call management and Track control (NEXT, BACK, PLAY PAUSE VOLUME) built into headset. Sennheiser quality. Compatible with iPhone, Android and most other bluetooth phones. Collapsible headset for storage. Can use two bluetooth profiles so can switch from your laptop to your phone without pairing and unpairing.
Cons Headset obviously requires charging. Price is at the upper end of consumer audio at RRP of around €240.
