AIB is donating 39 of its most valuable pieces of art to the State including 3 works by Irish artist Jack B. Yeats.
12 of the pieces will be transferred immediately.
While the exchange of the remaining 27 will take place over the next 2 years.
This is due to the care needed in handling such a valuable collection.
The bank is also making 1,000 other works in its possession available for public exhibition.
The announcement today follows discussions between the Arts Minister Jimmy Deenihan and AIB.
