High Court will today rule in DCU student injunction case

Jan 22nd, 2012, 7:54 am

The High Court will today rule whether to grant an order to a 22 year old DCU business student,  stopping national newspapers identifying him in the press over an online video.

Eoin McKeogh  wants an injunction preventing 6 national newspapers publishing his name or photo in connection with this video,  which wrongly implies he evaded paying a taxi fare.

This case came to media attention last week after the young student secured a High Court order stopping internet giants like Google and Facebook from rebroadcasting the clip and other material.

The 22 year old student claims to have been living a nightmare since the alleged defamatory material was published on the internet.

Lawyers for the student argue it is not in the public interest for their clients name to be published and so seeking a barring order on newspapers linking him to this online video.

Yesterday evening Mr Justice Michael Peart said he’ll make no order against one of the papers the Sunday Times which has not yet published an article on the story but he will give his decision in full today.
