Taoiseach to meet Vita Cortex workers

Feb 3rd, 2012, 5:01 pm

The Taoiseach is confident that the Vita Cortex redundancy dispute will be resolved over the coming days.

Enda Kenny is meeting with the workers in Cork city this evening.

This is day 50 of the sit-in at the closed down factory.

The former employees will be receiving statutory redundancies on Monday.

But the group is continuing their protest as they claim the company owner is not fulfilling his promises.

Speaking to Cork’s RedFM Enda Kenny says the government is stepping in to bring an end to this row.

“The State is processing the claims for the workers, which I expect will be dealt with now in the next couple of days” he said.

“So I’m going to talk to the Vita Cortex workers; I’m going to reassure them that whatever the State can actually do to assist the process of bringing this to a conclusion is going to be available to them”.

“It’s not a case – in the Vita Cortex case – of pandering to the businessman: I feel for these workers” he added.
