TD calls for judicial powers to halt repossessions

Feb 3rd, 2012, 11:58 am

The Independent TD Stephen Donnelly is asking the government to give powers to judges to refuse repossession orders to banks for family homes.

Currently the judges have to enforce possession once the 1 year moratorium runs out.

The government is introducing new insolvency and bankruptcy laws.

The legislation is being debated in the Dáil today.

Deputy Donnelly says his Bill should be incorporated into those laws.

He told the Dáil that he would like the government to look favourably on his new Bill.
