Carl Zimmer on the evolution of friendship

Feb 16th, 2012, 8:30 am

This Saturday on Futureproof, we’ll be catching up with Carl Zimmer on his recent article for Time Magazine on the evolutionary origins of friendship. Friendship can be a difficult thing to define in humans, let alone in other animals. Relatively few long-term studies have been done on animal bonding and scientists are still trying to figure out what separates true non-human friendship from our anthropomorphic projections. Carl has collected masses of data, theories and thought-provoking stories and put them together in a really great article (behind a paywall). On this week’s show, we’ll be asking him about his more surprising and interesting finds.
