The Future of Northern Ireland

Jan 30th, 2012, 2:31 pm

Today on Lunchtime, Jonathan interviewed Sinn Fein TD Pearse Doherty about the possibility of holding a referendum on the re-unification of Northern Ireland and the Republic.

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has said that he can see no reason why there can’t be a referendum in Northern Ireland on the issue between 2016 and 2021.

It follows the announcement that Scotland will vote on whether or not to leave the UK in 2014.

Jonathan spoke to Pearse Doherty about the possibility of giving the North the opportunity to vote on whether or not the six counties wish to stay linked to the UK. You can listen to the interview here.

Lunchtime with Damien Kiberd and Jonathan Healy, Monday to Friday 12.00 – 13.30
