Henry does synchronised swimming

Jan 9th, 2012, 2:59 pm
Synchronised swimming at the London 2012 Olympics has been over sold by 10,000 tickets, proving how popular it now is. The sport has come a long way from its humble beginnings when it was called water ballet and was first performed by men but now is mainly a womens sport.

Henry McKean went along to Ballymun swimming pool in Dublin where he met Aoife Drumm from Dublin Synchro, Ireland’s first synchronised swimming club. Henry and other malebeginners tried to perform the Isle of Man position.

‘Dublin Synchro meet up at St. Joseph’s swimming pool on the Navan Road Dublin, Sunday, 7pm – 8pm €6 per session, Contact: dublinsynchro@gmail.com’

Synchronised swImming is a hybrid form of swimming, dance and gymnastics, consisting of swimmers performing a synchronized routine of elaborate moves in the water, accompanied by music. Synchronised swimming demands advanced water skills, and requires great strength, endurance, flexibility, grace, artistry and precise timing, as well as exceptional breath control when upside down underwater.
