St Cancices National School in Kilkenny started to introduce instruments into the classroom 28 years ago, after teacher Regina O’Leary found a few abandoned instruments.

Now every child from 5 years old is given a musical instrument to play. 450 kids are involved including 2 jazz bands, 2 Orchestras, a recorder ensemle and a parents orchestra.

St Cancices are preparing for the Irish Association of Youth Orchestra Annual Festival at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on the 4th of February. Regina daughter also a teacher in the school will be conducting.
