Former Italy and Japan coach John Kirwan has confirmed that he would be interested in speaking to Ulster about replacing Brian McLaughlin as Head Coach at Ravenhill. The Irish province confirmed earlier today that they will appoint a new coach at the end of the season after McLaughlin agreed to take-up a new role with the Ulster academy. Ulster Director of Rugby David Humphreys today praised McLaughlin for his achievements with the province and also revealed that the province are in “negotiations and discussions” with a number of candidates for the job. Kirwan is one of the top-class coaches that have been strongly linked with the role in recent weeks. The former All Black has admitted on Off the Ball on Newstalk that he would be interested in speaking to the province. “I’d love to stay in Europe, I’d love to get a club that’s got aspirations to win and I know that all the Irish sides have got aspirations to win the Heineken Cup every year, and do pretty well at it,” Kirwan told Eoin McDevitt. “So, yeah I would look at any offers. I think that there’s been a bit of politics coming out of Ulster at the moment, so I don’t know what’s going on. I certainly haven’t had any contact anyway.”
