Former Justice Minister Alan Shatter has launched a High Court challenge with the aim of quashing findings contained in the Guerin report.

Mr Shatter resigned following the publication of the report, which criticised his handling of allegations made by garda whistleblower, Maurice McCabe.

Mr Shatter claims the report showed objective bias and an absence of fair procedures and also alleges that senior counsel Sean Guerin showed "indecent haste" in compiling his report.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton says the government is not uncomfortable with the legal action:

Newstalk's political editor Shane Coleman told Lunchtime this situation is almost unheard of.
