A Limerick man has died following an accident at a construction site in New York City.

According to local media, the 40-year-old victim became trapped when a boom crane collapsed onto a truck at the Manhattan site at around 11.40am local time yesterday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New York City Department of Buildings is investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed they are aware of the case, and says they are 'ready to provide consular assistance.'
