After years of speculation, Apple has finally launched its own streaming service today to take on the likes of Spotify, Deezer, Google Play Music and YouTube's Music Key.

The app launched at 16:00 GMT for iOS, with the Android version due to be released later in the summer and a Windows version is also being developed.

It comes as part of a general operating system update which will see the app being automatically downloaded to millions of Apple products around the world.

Apple's iOS 8.4 is expected to take up 1.4GB of memory. The update can be accessed through your devices settings - the software update is available in the General menu.

Beats 1, Apple’s international internet radio station will begin broadcasting at 17:00.

To make up for ground lost to competitors, Apple is offering a three-month free trial period.

After 21 days the service will cost €9.99 per month, a family pass will also be available for €14.99 a month - it will allow six people to use the app.

30 million tracks are available from today - including Taylor Swift's 1989 and an exclusive release of Pharrell William's new single, Freedom.
