At least 30 people have been killed in Iraq's eastern province of Diyala, after Shia militia opened fire inside a Sunni mosque.

Islamic State militants have been in a battle for control of key parts of the country and have been destroying Shia mosques.

But Iraq's Ambassador to the UK, Faik Nerweyi, believes the Iraqi military are making progress against the extremist fighters.

"The tide actually has turned and ISIS have been on the retreat," he said.

He added: "The Peshmergas and other Iraqi forces have regained some of the positions they had lost to them earlier."

The United States has also not ruled out attacks on ISIS in Syria as well as Iraq.
