Australian authorities have outlawed the sale of real bottles of Duff Beer, claiming its cartoon origins might encourage underage drinking.

Australia’s Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code has followed through on an official complaint made by the Alcohol Policy Coalition last June, which claimed that the beer, most famously consumed by Homer Simpson, would inspire underage viewers to start drinking illegally.

The beer has been removed from sale in Australian branches of Woolworths, with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting that the chain store raised no contest to the ban.

This is not the first time that real-life Duff has encountered legal problems; previous attempts by separate brewing companies in Germany and Colombia have fallen foul of copyright claims by 20th Century Fox.

But it is believed that this is the first time that underage drinking concerns have pulled the beer from shelves.

So it seems that the authorities down under have had enough of that wonderful Duff.
