The body of a baby has been found washed up on a beach on the Greek island of Kos.

Reuters reports the Greece Coastguard made the grim discovery earlier today.

Kos is a crossing point into Europe for thousands of refugees who are fleeing Syria.

The infant is believed to be between six months and a year old - however there are conflicting reports as to whether the body is that of a little boy or girl.

The body is badly decomposed.

If follows international outcry after photographs of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi shown the youngster washed up in early September on a beach in the Turkish resort of Bodrum.

Photographs of Syrian toddler Alan Kurdi, whose body was found in the surf near the Turkish beach resort of Bodrum, shocked the world last month, bringing even more focus on the plight of refugees attempting dangerous routes into Europe.

A majority of EU ministers voted to relocate 120,000 asylum seekers across its member states, and the EU will also donate €1bn to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

However, a number of eastern and central European countries voted against the plan, with Slovakia threatening to bring legal action against the EU.
